Pristine and unspoilt, the beach is protected at both ends by headlands. The beach can often have an isolated feeling, it is only busy during the summer months. Many local homes are used just as holiday houses.
The beach gets its name from a mass whale beaching in the nineteenth century. Today it is a popular places for weekends away and summer holidays for locals.
To the southern end of the beach is a rock pool and an ocean pool for swimming.
