Differences of opinion abound on whether the northern or southern beaches are better. Southern beaches are typically shorter than their northern beaches counterparts but both offer “surfable” conditions.
Northern beaches considered good for surfing are Curl Curl, Dee Why and Queenscliff. Southern beaches include South Cronulla, South Coogee and Maroubra.
Manly beach has recently implemented a Surfers’ Code which dictates who has right of way and recommends ways in which surfers should respect their fellow wave catchers. The code includes not swimming between the red and yellow flags which are designated swimming areas. The code also recommends that surfers communicate with one another to avoid collisions.
