Traditionally, pubs in Sydney served alcoholic beverages, meals and usually some form of basic accommodation. As the city grew and space became a premium, many pubs stopped offering accommodation and/or meals. As the need for accommodation and meals waned, the growth of pubs serving just alcohol has grown. There are also a large number of bars in Sydney. The main difference between bars and pubs tends to be the décor, and clientele each attract.
