Sydney driving

The car is a good option if you want to travel between parts of the city other than the CBD. Within the city a car is not needed and public transport is excellent and fun with the ferries.

Many outlying areas are now served by motorways, most of which charge tolls. The newest toll ways, the Cross-City Tunnel , and the Westlink M7, the western orbital motorway bypassing Sydney, are electronic toll ways.

Tolls may only be paid by purchasing an electronic pass from the toll way management up before or within 2 days after using the road. Call the Roads and Traffic Authority (13 18 65) if you have used the motorway and payment can be made over the phone or by internet.

Popular places to drive include the Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley which can both be done as long day trips.
