Nutcote

Sydney sightseeing

Nutcote was the harbourside home of May Gibbs, author of the Australian classic children's books Snugglepot&Cuddlepie . May Gibbs was born in England but moved with her family to Australia when she was four.

Nutcote

Growing up in Western Australia, May grew a fondness for the Australian bush. By the time May moved to Neutral Bay in Sydney, she had already been publishing cards, artworks and short stories based on characters born out of the Australian bush. Her home in Neutral Bay was named Nutcote. The house was originally built in 1925 where May lived for 45 years.

The house has now been renovated and commissioned as a House Museum in her honour. The museum contains some of May's artefacts, art works, early sketches and also houses an education centre with facilities for school children. Address: 5 Wallaringa Avenue, Neutral Bay, NSW, 2089.
