North Fort

Sydney car hire

North Fort is located near Manly, on North Head, at the entrance to Sydney Harbour. This historical building is a great addition to a day spent in the beachside suburb Manly.

North Fort

Venture out to North Fort for impressive views and a trip back in time. North Head has been occupied by the military since 1934 and North Fort was constructed as part of Sydney's defence system, after fears of attacks from foreign vessels through Sydney Harbour. Various stations and devices were constructed around Sydney Harbour to provide both vantage points and points of attack. These include tunnels and hiding places for military personal, which can still be explored today if you join in on a tour of the area.

North Head Sanctuary, which surrounds North Head Fort, is a protected area of pristine bush land that contributes to the beauty of the city of Sydney, and also allows visitors to explore natural Australian wildlife without needing to leave the city itself. Guided tours are available, if you would like to you learn more about the militaristic and cultural history of the North Head area. You can also take a bushwalk yourself for free, along the many tracks that weave along the side of Sydney Harbour, viewing banksia scrubs and the hanging swamplands along the way. Address: North Fort Road, Manly, NSW, 2095.
