Nielsen Park is a recreation area located in Sydney's eastern suburbs. It also has a small, white and sandy beach that faces onto Sydney Harbour, which provides one of the best views of the magnificent waterfront, including yachts, cruise ships and ferries.
The patches of lush green grass, silky sands and tiny rocky headlands make Nielsen Park one of the most special and cherished locations in Sydney. Although it can get crowded on a warm summer's day, the visitors who come here are calm and relaxed, compared to some of the more boisterous beach-side locations like Manly or Bondi. Despite the numbers, and the very small area, the seclusion of Nielsen Park seems to ensure that there is always enough space for everyone.
Nielsen Park is certainly a family location, and young children can play safely on the sand and the water's edge. The nearby residential area shelters the beach, and you will find it hard not to become jealous of the fortunate families who own property at such a unique and luxurious location, for they have this same spot outside of their doors every day.
Around Nielsen Park, there is also some wonderful walks that can take you to further impressive ocean views, and historic locations including
Vaucluse House. You can enjoy these benefits on a sunny day, but never hesitate to visit the same location in the middle of the night. You will be surprised how romantic this headland can be, in the dark, with twinkling stars and soft moving shadows. You'll have the smell of the ocean, glowing boats on the harbour, a cool breeze and a clear night sky. Although the area can be quite remote, don't be surprised to meet others who also share the same idea.
