Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre

The Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre (RAN Heritage Centre) is dedicated to exhibits on the history of Australia’s Navy. Exhibits range from large weapons systems to uniforms to the conning tower of one of the Japanese submarines to attack Sydney harbour in World War II.

The RAN Heritage Centre also includes exhibits that allow visitors to see, touch and listen to a range of displays including personal mementos from those who have served in the Australian Navy. The RAN Heritage Centre itself is housed in two heritage-listed buildings: The Gun Mounting Workshop dating from 1922 and the Boatshed dating from 1890.

The RAN Heritage Centre is open seven days a week from 09:30am to 3:30pm with the exception of Australia Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Accessing the RAN Heritage Centre is by bus tour group or ferry only. Ferries depart Circular Quay in the direction of Watson’s Bay. The ferries will stop at the Garden Island Wharf during RAN Heritage Centre opening hours only.
