Museum of Contemporary Art

Sydney sightseeing

The MCA is dedicated to collecting and exhibiting an impressive and important collection of contemporary art, from both Australian and international artists. In the world of museums, the MCA is comparatively young, opening its doors in November, 1991.

The museum is located in a stunning Art Deco building which was refurbished for the purpose of hosting the MCA. It was once the offices of the Maritime Services Board.

An innovative and daring collection is a mark of distinction at the MCA. With permanent and temporary exhibitions, there is always something to see that will capture your imagination. The works on display date from 1970 onwards. You will find traditional art, sculpture, fashion and media works here. Exhibitions are surprising and intriguing.

The museum is located at West Circular Quay and can be reached by car, bus, train or ferry. The Sydney Explorer Bus also services the museum.

Located at Circular Quay West, The Rocks. Free admission, except to special exhibitions. Circular Quay. (02 9245 9245).
