This 1 kilometer stretch of beach is so popular with surfers that it boasts two surf life saving clubs. The beach isn’t just for surfers however, you will regularly find swimmers and fishermen enjoying themselves here.
The south of Maroubra beach is popular with scuba divers, you will find local schools that will hire equipment or provide lessons.
The name Maroubra is the Aboriginal word for thunder, a reference to the loud sound the waves make as they crash on the shore.
The foreshore is surrounded by parks and reserves, so if you don’t feel like a swim there is plenty of room to play.
There is a skate park behind the beach which is arguably one of the best in Australia. Marine Parade, opposite the beach has many cafes and shops.
Maroubra Beach is 10km south-east of central Sydney. It is a patrolled beach.
