Government House

Government House is situated within the Botanic Gardens. It is a Gothic revival building which was constructed from 1837 to 1845. Since the Governor is no longer in residence, the building is open to the public.

Government House was designed in 1835 by British architect Edward Blore and regarded as one of the best examples of gothic revival in Australia.

The State Rooms were decorated in 1879 by Lyon, Cottier & Co. as part of the Sydney International Exhibition. The interior features a collection of colonial furniture, portraiture, and gubernatorial memorabilia.

A visit here is a wonderful step into the past. Address: Royal Botanic Gardens, Macquarie Street, Sydney, NSW, 2000.
