It is illegal for adults to ride bicycles on footpaths unless they are especially marked for cyclist or shared cyclist/pedestrian use: only children under 12 may ride on unmarked footpaths, adults must ride only on marked bicycle tracks or on the road with cars. The car is a good option if you want to travel between parts of the city other than the CBD. Many outlying areas are now served by motorways, most of which charge tolls. The newest tollways, the Cross-City Tunnel , and the Westlink M7, the western orbital motorway bypassing Sydney , are electronic tollways. Tolls may only be paid by purchasing an electronic pass from the tollway management up to 24 hours before or after using this road.
