As the name suggests, Fisherman’s beach is perfect for those looking for the catch of the day. Since European settlement this has been a popular fishing spot. As there are not a lot of swimmers around, many launch their boats here.
The beach is tucked behind Long Reef, which makes it safe for swimming. The clay base beneath the water along with seaweed gives it a brown colour, making it an unpopular swimming spot in this regard. Many locals can be spotted windsurfing and kite surfing around the reef.
Fisherman’s Beach is part of the Long Reef Aquatic Reserve. It’s much quieter than some of the surrounding North Shore Beaches, and is a good place for a picnic or relaxing afternoon in the many grassy areas.
Those that have watched the soap opera Home and Away will be interested to know many of the scenes are shot on location here and at Long Reef.
There is a well regarded golf course on the foreshore which is popular with locals.
