Chinatown is a bright and lively collection of Asian food, shopping and culture in the city centre. Spanning over several streets, Chinatown district extends to Goulburn Street in the North and Hay Street in the South.
At its heart is the pedestrian only shopping mall on Dixon Street. You'll know when you have reached Chinatown, as the streets are marked with distinctive architecture and Chinese lanterns. If you're a night owl, you will be glad to hear that many of the eateries in Chinatown stay open as late as 4am in summertime. Don't miss grabbing a bite to eat here, as it is home to some of the best Sydney Chinese restaurants
and cafes in the city. There are also several specialist groceries and bakeries to choose from.
Chinatown is host to several festivals and celebrations throughout the year. The three week long Chinese New Year festival in February has an international reputation as being one of the best outside of Asia.
