Centennial Park Sydney

Sydney sightseeing

The picnic basket is packed and we are heading to Centennial Park for lunch. This magnificent park, in the heart of Sydney, is set on 200 ha and is a fantastic place to visit for any reason. Ride a horse around the park, take a stroll through the gardens, watch the birds on the ponds or play a game of cricket.

We get to the park and take our picnic basket and find a nice shady spot overlooking the water. Hungry I open it up. Mmmmm. Pate, cold chicken, potato salad, crusty bread and a bottle of Merlot to wash it down. Even chocolate mud cake for dessert.

The hotel had thought of it all and even included a picnic blanket for us to enjoy our feast on. We polished off all of it, including the last few drops of the delicious Merlot.

Time to walk off the delicious food and look around some more. Next thing I know a horse gallops by with the rider yelling out sorry and when I turned around there were another three coming towards me. Then I realised it was in the middle of the bridle path. Ooops. My partner quickly pulled me out of the way and they riders narrowly missed running us down.

Moral of the story is you need to make sure you know where you are walking in Centennial Park as you just never know what may come at you from around the corner. Centennial Park is a true testament to Sydneysiders and their commitment to good recreational facilities for everyone.
