The day dawned bright and hot and we could see the sea from the windows of the hotel. Sparkling in the light. Inviting us to spend the day there. So we decided to organize a picnic and spend the day on the beach.
Bondi Beach is one of the most famous in Australia and the nearest ocean beach to the centre of Sydney, only eight kilometres distant. The Surf
Life Saving Club dates was established in 1906, only four years after the ban on daylight bathing in urban areas was lifted in Sydney, making it one of the country's oldest clubs. Bondi members invented the surf reel and many other icons of lifesaving. The popular TV show Bondi Rescue
is filmed on Bondi Beach, among other shows. A great place to swim, there is an underwater shark net set up during the summer months for extra protection.
Bondi is famous for its beach but is also a large urban area with plenty of shops and restaurants. An Oceanway connects Bondi
to South Head
to the north and other beaches to the south up to Coogee. Bondi Beach shopping is found along Campbell Parade which runs all the way along the beach. Hotel Bondi is a famous nearby landmark that features a number of popular bars and restaurants.
