Balmain is west of Sydney CBD and was originally a ship building area; it is now a trendy spot with many restaurants and pubs, and a popular Saturday market.
Darling Street is Balmain's main street and has boutique shops, restaurants and cafes. Landmarks on this street include the Post Office and Court House, alongside Balmain Town Hall
, the historic Westpac Bank, Balmain Fire Station and Balmain Working Men's Institute. Balmain is also home to many historic hotels, including the Cat and Fiddle Hotel
and the Cricketer's Arms Hotel.
Balmain has a number of Sydney ferry services that run here to and from Circular Quay.
