Art Gallery of New South Wales

At the Art Gallery of New South Wales you will find some impressive works on display including work by noted Australian artists Arthur Streeton, Sidney Nolan and Tom Roberts. The general exhibition hall features Australian Art from the time of settlement, as well as some Asian and European works.


The Gallery first opened its doors in 1897. It is the fourth largest art gallery in Australia and is considered to have the best collection of Australian and international artworks in New South Wales.

Throughout the year there are often free events held for children such as face painting, art classes and live performances.

The gallery is located in The Domain, Sydney. The nearest train stations are Martin Place and St James, both a ten minute walk from the gallery. The gallery is also on the Sydney explorer bus route and is stop No. 6. There is limited metered parking in the surrounding streets.

Admission is free to the general exhibition hall, however there is a charge to see some of the specialist exhibitions which change throughout the year.

Take the train to Martin Place or St. James or Sydney Explorer, Stop 6. Art Gallery Road, The Domain (02 9225 1744).
